With spring right around the corner, well-meaning “spring cleaning” is due to land on your doorstep in just a few short weeks. Have you given thought yet to how thorough the exorcism of dust-mites and un-desirables will be this year? If you answered only with maudlin musings, perhaps it is best you start the cleansing experience slowly. Let's start with your grand bathroom...
The Starter Kit: Vacuum inside the cabinets and/or use those old washcloths to wipe away dust and hair. Replace toilet and tub-cleaning accessories that are now ragged, torn or excessively dirty. Don’t let those spacious luxury apartment, garden-tubs lose their shiny splendor! Use a 10% bleach solution in a spray bottle to remove any mold build-up. Remember that vinegar solutions can be used to remove hard water deposits, such as those found around shower enclosures.
What Lies Beneath: How often do you use every product found under the bathroom sink? For that which you haven’t seen in ages, the time has come to toss it out. Medicated shampoos are good to keep handy, so factor in how often you use these before throwing them away.
As you dig further inside this or neighboring cabinets, chances are you will find some products you purchased as part of sale that hasn’t been utilized beyond maybe once or twice. Don’t move past this section without throwing these away as well.
Beyond the Mirror: Toss out old prescriptions from your medicine cabinet. Make sure all the prescriptions are up to date and that the labels are intact. If you aren’t sure of what’s in a bottle, don’t use it. If you are out of a certain over-the-counter product, it’s time to go out and restock. Oh, and clean the mirrors before you move onto the next task!
Let There Be Light: Take down the curtains, blinds, draperies, etc to wash or have cleaned. Don’t be too hasty though, and do stop to read directions on how to properly care for them first. If it’s time to replace some items due to fading, consider putting that on your home-décor shopping list for your next errand out.
You may notice at this point your windows need attention. Wash the inside and outside of your windows, and rinse the screens off as well. This goes for the fans in your bathroom, too!
Wash, wash away: How often do you throw away old washcloths and towels? Most of us tend to frequent a certain set, and they’re most likely the newer (and softer) towels. Get rid of the excess towels and use the free space for something else. If you’re trying for style this spring, now may be the time to consider which items should stay behind for that future matching bathroom set.
